Stephen
D. Rothbatt Scholarship
 The Lake Michigan States
Section of the Air & Waste Management Association has
established a scholarship for graduate students studying in the
environmental field in memory of a long-time member and supporter,
Stephen H. Rothblatt.
Mr. Rothblatt was the Director, Air and Radiation Division, U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency, Region 5, headquartered in Chicago,
Illinois. His credentials included:
- Advisor to the Governments of Lithuania, Latvia,
Estonia and India related to air quality management programs.
- Advisor to the Republic of Korea, leading a team of
air quality experts twice to Seoul where they developed a strategy to
deal with the reduced visibility/fine particulate problem of the
Seoul-Inchon metropolitan area.
- Chairman of the Lake Michigan States Section of the
Air & Waste Management Association, 1987-1988.
- In 1989 he was detailed to U.S. EPA’s Office of Air
and Radiation in Washington, DC to work with the Headquarters’ team
developing what became the 1990 Amendments to the Clean Air Act.
- Mr. Rothblatt earned his Chemical Engineering degree
from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and the Juris
Doctorate degree from DePaul University’s College of Law.

(WM-A&WMA) Scholarship
The West Michigan
Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association
(WM-A&WMA) is pleased to announce the availability scholarships
to be awarded to selected students pursuing a career in environmental
management. Each successful applicant will also receive a
student WM-A&WMA membership.
At the start of the term for which the scholarship is sought,
applicants must be attending full time and pursuing a course of study
leading to a career in air pollution control, waste management or other
environmental management field. Preferred courses of study
include environmental engineering, physical or natural sciences, or
natural resources. If in doubt as to the suitability of a curriculum or
course of study, contact the Scholarship Chairperson.
Applicants must be in or going into a Junior or Senior
undergraduate class standing and have declared their major, or in or
going into graduate school pursuing a graduate degree. Merit will be of
primary interest, and the applicant should have at least a "B" average,
(e.g., 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale). Extracurricular activities and
interests will also be considered.
